  • Petrol and diesel are available everywhere on major roads
  • Average price: Petrol ~13 MAD/L (~1.20 EUR), Diesel ~11 MAD/L (~1.00 EUR)
  • Stations are rare in the south and mountain areas — fill up before heading out

Highways & Tolls

  • Morocco has an excellent highway network (Casablanca-Tangier, Casa-Marrakech, Casa-Agadir)
  • Tolls: cash or Jawaz card (electronic badge)
  • Example fares: Casa → Marrakech ~100 MAD (~10 EUR), Casa → Tangier ~170 MAD (~17 EUR)
  • Rest areas are clean with restaurants and gas stations
  • Highways are well-lit and in good condition

Hazards & Precautions

  • Watch out for pedestrians and cyclists on national roads
  • Donkeys, sheep and camels may cross the road in the south
  • Roundabouts are common: priority is to the RIGHT (vehicle already in has priority)
  • Mountain roads: tight curves, sometimes no guardrails — drive carefully
  • Avoid driving at night on secondary roads (poor lighting, pedestrians hard to see)
  • In mountain fog, slow down and use fog lights

Parking

  • Informal parking attendants are everywhere — tip them 2-5 MAD (~0.50 EUR)
  • Underground/guarded parking costs 5-20 MAD/hour in cities
  • Never leave valuable items visible in the car
  • Blue zones are paid (tickets from machine or attendant)

Practical tips

  • Download Google Maps or Maps.me offline maps before your trip
  • Always carry: driving license, passport, rental contract
  • Moroccan roads are generally in good condition on main routes
  • Bring water and snacks for long southern roads
  • GPS can be unreliable in medinas — trust local signage
  • A small tip (5-10 MAD / ~1 EUR) is appreciated for spontaneous help
